Tacoma, Washington is the newest location for HFC to launch a Hispanic Ministry. This month Calvary Baptist Church called Pastor Jesus Rivas and his wife Carmelina to move from Lexington, Kentucky to Tacoma. Pastor Rivas and his wife are originally from Cuba, but have planted Hispanic churches in Ukraine, Virginia and Kentucky.
Tacoma is 15% Hispanic and on the east side of the city, where Calvary Baptist is located, there are very few Hispanic congregations currently. Our vision is to use this as a base for starting new works throughout the state. Pastor Rivas will join Pastor Sorin Crivceag (Romania) in Salem, Pastor Oscar Aviles (El Salvador) in Wilsonville and Pastor Augustín Cruz (El Salvador) in Portland as part of a growing multi-cultural team working together to plant new Hispanic churches in the Northwest.
